Sandy's Priorities in Education
I believe each and every student that enters TUHSD deserves equal opportunities and fair treatment to be successful in high school. Excellence in Education is the result I strive for.
Students come from many different backgrounds, hold different political, religious, and personal beliefs, are of different genders and sexual orientations, and have different abilities. They should be recognized and appreciated for who they are. In addition, I recognize that mental health has become a major crisis in our country, state and our schools, especially for our teens and young adults and thus has to be a priority.
As a result of 25 years of public education advocacy and almost 8 years as of Governing Board Member, I have heard countless, memorable stories from students, parents and teachers regarding the challenges they face within and outside of school. Their stories will never be forgotten and I will always do my best to make sure each student is given support and opportunities that will provide them with a basis for success during high school and beyond.
With that, my priorities as school board member are:
Providing Mental Health Support For Students & Staff
Ensuring Safety at each School Site & District Office
Advocating Equal Opportunities for Quality Learning
Supporting Quality Educators in fighting for equitable salaries and benefits
Recognizing the Importance of Support Staff and working toward more equitable salaries and benefits
Basing Decisions on transparency, stakeholder input, strong communication, accountability and recognition of fiscal responsibility with limited budget dollars.
